FRIDA the young feminist fund are leading a great initiative tomorrow,
Friday 1st September that we at Jijaze wholeheartedly support.
FRIDA support and connects young women, girls, and trans* youth making change around the world. In their work, they have
realised the real importance of self-care for activists and change makers and tomorrow they are hosting a collective self-care moment tomorrow. As they say
‘With the news cycle being dominated by racist violence, shrinking civic space, and discriminatory legislation in the United States and Western Europe – it’s important to remember that this is the everyday context for most of the rest of the world. It is clear we have a lot of work to do together.
We know social change becomes a reality because of the hard work of movements. But movements are made up of people, and the hard work can be exhausting. We cannot contribute our labour of love, patience, courage, creativity, and resilience, if we do not take care of our own emotional, physical and psychological well-being and that of our feminist sisters (not just cis-ters).
So we want to invite you to take part in a collective self-care moment!‘
How can you get involved?
FRIDA have a range of resources you can use:
You could start by reading the stories they have collected about how some of the young feminist activists in their network practice it here: https://youngfeministfund.org/self-care-stories/
You can also download and share their beautiful self-care cards here: https://youngfeministfund.org/send-self-care-card/
Then, and perhaps most importantly Sign up here to promote what they are doing on your own social media feeds tomorrow and contribute to collective action for self-care: https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/60833-self-care-solidarity-storm
When you sign up you are agreeing to post this message to your profile at the same time as everyone else who signs up!
“#Selfcare isn’t selfish. I’m taking care of myself to take care of our movements. #solidaritystorm http://thndr.me/5BCghl”
At Jijaze we are also running our own collective self-care event on 20th September.
